CH. Karnchang and Sino-Thai sign two construction contracts worth 50 billion baht with SRT for double-track railway project – Chiang Rai-Chiang Khong section
CH. Karnchang Public Company Limited (CK) joins hands with Sino-Thai Engineering & Construction Public Company Limited in forming two joint ventures – CKST-DC2 and CKST-DC3 to sign two contracts with the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) for the construction of double-track railway project in the Chiang Rai – Chiang Khong section with a total value of 50 billion baht. The signing ceremony, held on December 29, 2021 at the SRT headquarters, was presided over by Mr. Nirut Maneephan, the Governor of the SRT, with the contracts cosigned by Mr. Sittidej Trivisvavet, Senior Executive Vice President – Administration, CH. Karnchang Public Company Limited and Mr. Pakpoom Srichamni. President/Executive Director, Sino-Thai Engineering & Construction Public Company Limited.
The double-track railway project Den Chai – Chiang Rai – Chiang Khong section, comprising three construction contracts, spans a total distance of 323 kilometers, with total project value of 72,920 million baht, starting from Den Chai Station, Phrae Province, heading north through Lampang, Phayao, and terminating at the Chiang Khong border Checkpoint in Chiang Rai. The CKST-DC2 Joint Venture offered the lowest priced bid for the second contract for Ngao-Chiang Rai section, with a total distance of 132 kilometers at 26,900 million baht, and the CKST-DC3 Joint Venture offered the lowest priced bid for the third contract for Chiang Rai – Chiang Khong section, with a total distance of 87 kilometers at 19,390 million baht. The construction of the two sections is expected to take 6 years to completed and be handed over in late 2027. The double-track railway project Den Chai – Chiang Rai – Chiang Khong section will open up new opportunity for the development of local trade, tourism and economy in the four promising northern provinces of Thailand.
